Welcome from TPC chairs
MESSAGE FROM THE TECHNICAL PROGRAM COMMITTEE CHAIRS
On behalf of the technical program committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to Toronto, Canada for the 33th IEEE INFOCOM Conference! This year’s IEEE INFOCOM continues to provide a venue for high-quality technical papers in a wide range of research areas in computer and communication networking. In keeping with its long history and tradition, IEEE INFOCOM 2014 has been fortunate to receive 1650 papers, of which 319 were accepted to main technical program. The acceptance rate of 19% reflects the prestige and popularity of INFOCOM to our research community. The papers included in the program represent the forefront of networking research and explore important new ideas and directions in the field.
The papers were selected by a rigorous review process that involved 40 Area TPC chairs and 472 TPC members from a wide variety of academic, industrial, and research organizations around the globe. Each paper was assigned for review to three TPC members and to an Area TPC chair, who supervised the review process of that paper. When the first review round ended, the reviewers conducted an extensive on-line discussion about the paper and tried to reach a consensus. Additional reviews from expert colleagues were solicited, whenever necessary. A total of 5133 reviews were ultimately provided, indeed a significant voluntary effort and commitment from the networking community! The Area TPC chair then gave an accept/reject/discuss recommendation for each of the papers under his/her supervision. 160 papers were accepted before the TPC meeting, and 374 papers were selected and discussed by the TPC members, in person, at the TPC meeting, which was held at the University of Toronto, Canada, on November 16, 2013. Following this process, 159 additional papers were accepted to the conference.
Besides the main IEEE INFOCOM technical program, there are eleven workshops and three panels on emerging research topics. We are especially pleased to have Professor P.R. Kumar from the University of Texas A&M University to deliver the plenary keynote speech. In addition, training, demo, and poster sessions will be presented. A special student activity program is scheduled on the day before the conference. Finally, two prestigious awards will be presented at the conference: INFOCOM Achievement Award and INFOCOM Best Paper Award.
We would like to thank all Area TPC chairs, TPC members, external reviewers and executive committee members for their outstanding dedication and hard work. In addition, we would like to thank Dr. Minghui Shi, TPC Vice Chair for information systems, for his tremendous efforts and countless number of hours spent on setting up the EDAS system and offering continuous technical support throughout, and Dr. Muhammad Ismail, Web Chair, for his significant effort to maintain and update the conference website. We are grateful to our TPC meeting arrangement chairs, Professors Baochun Li, Liang Ben, Lian Zhao, Xiaodong Lin and the University of Toronto team for their generosity and tireless effort in ensuring a smooth TPC meeting. We would also like to convey our appreciation to members of the two award committees for professionally handling the award selection process. We would like to thank the conference general chair, Professor Al Leon-Garcia, and the standing committee chair, Professor Tom Hou and his committee, for their continuous support and guidance. Our thanks also go to Ms. Debora Kingston, IEEE Communications Society, for her invaluable assistance in coordinating various IEEE related activities. Finally, we would like to thank the authors for their continuing support in submitting their contributions to this conference.
We wish you enjoy the great IEEE INFOCOM conference experience!
